Great sportsmanship is shown on the construction site of the Santander Foals Campus

All good things come in threes at the "BORUSSIA-PARK“ training centre: Santander Consumer Bank, as the main sponsor of the youth teams, and the building contractor Temmink and Elvermann Schaltechnik, as business club partners of Borussia, are involved in building the Santander Foals Campus of Borussia Mönchengladbach football team.

Actively encouraging young talent

Borussia has always had a reputation of actively encouraging young players in an exemplary manner. As another step in consistently improving conditions for this, the Santander Foals Campus is to be built at the training centre at "BORUSSIA-PARK", following on from the Foals Pitch and Runners' Hill. The construction of the Santander Foals Campus has been made possible thanks to the support of the main sponsor of the Borussia youth team, Santander Consumer Bank.

The new building, which will include a great variety of facilities for the youth training centre, will span a total area of 1,600 m². Four additional changing rooms for the teams, two changing rooms for the referees, trainers' offices, a strategy room and a gym with modern equipment will be available for training, stretching over an area of approx. 520 m² once the construction work is completed. Moreover, the new clubhouse, approx. 100 m² in size, and the foyer offer an attractive meeting place on the training grounds. The new building also includes around 420m² of rooms for greenkeeping, an equipment hall, a workshop, storage, an office and staffrooms.

An experienced construction team

An experienced team is assisting with the construction of the Santander Foals Campus at the "BORUSSIA-PARK": the building contractor Temmink as the general contractor and Elvermann as the service partner for formwork and concrete construction technology, a sales partner for the formwork manufacturer PASCHAL.
This team meant that the reinforced concrete shell was completed on 1 July 2014 according to the construction schedule. The opening is planned for August 2014, meaning that all of the facilities at the Santander Foals Campus can be used for the 2014/15 season.

Solid in design and build, in line with the style of the stadium

Elvermann oversaw the formwork planning for the new building and assisted Temmink by providing additional PASCHAL rental formwork and ELV slab formwork.
Due to the contractor's requirements that the appearance of the building is to reflect the look and feel of the stadium, as well as for reasons of statics and time, Temmink decided to construct the shell using in-situ concrete as much as possible.
For formwork planning, the Elvermann team uses the PASCHAL software PPL 10.0. When preparing the work for complex projects, the constructional engineers also use PP pro based on the 3D CAD software Autodesk.

reinforced concrete walls using LOGO.3 formwork
The first reinforced concrete walls were cast in October 2013 using the PASCHAL LOGO.3 formwork system in the dimensions 240x340cm + smaller panels.

To create reinforced concrete walls and columns, both the PASCHAL LOGO.3 system and the PASCHAL Modular formwork were used.
To this end, the building contractor combined its own "LOGO.3 formwork" with rented formwork materials from Elvermann's PASCHAL equipment pool.

Since fair-faced concrete quality was to be required for some of the concrete construction parts, including the base area, Temmink paid close attention to every single detail for all the formwork. Its team on the construction site had no problems with the formwork because they are very familiar with PASCHAL's formwork systems and know all the flexible application options. The versatility of the Modular/GE Universal Formwork also made the formwork easier, as did the well-engineered wall formwork system LOGO.3, which is always popular due to its dimensions and connecting pieces that are quick and easy to handle. The result is an outstanding concrete finish.

The energy concept also focuses on fair play

In coordination with the architects and planners, the design phase for the new building took ecological and economical factors into account. Greenery is planted on a large part of the roof. Heat and electrical energy is produced by a CHP plant. A decentralised ventilation system with heat recovery reduces the energy demand. A lighting system with presence detectors guarantees lower energy consumption.

Even during the current construction work, further construction projects are now being considered at Borussia: for example, the Foals Hotel with a possible route connection to the main stand. The master plans also include a new club museum, a bigger fan shop and a rehabilitation centre on the club grounds.
